Chasing the Northern Lights

Back in 2014, Julie and I were doing a lot of Groupon activities around town. She came across a “Groupon Getaways” deal for a Northern Lights trip to Iceland that sounded pretty good – it included airfare from NYC to Reykjavik, hotel for three nights, and a Northern Lights tour. We aren’t usually “tour group” travelers, but flying to Iceland in the middle of January seemed a little daunting, so we decided to take a chance on the package deal. Spoilers: it worked out really well and was an awesome trip.

Because it was winter, our sightseeing was limited to about a 50 mile radius of Reykjavik, but we still saw some awesome stuff. I can't wait to go back (probably in the summer so travel is easier and we can take advantage of those 24 hour days) and see more of the country.

The purpose of this site is to help us remember the details of the trip, tell our friends about the things that we did, and show off some of the photos that I took with my trusty Canon point-and-shoot camera. For a more photo-centric view of the trip, you can also check out my photos on Flickr.

So, click the navigation bar to the left to start reading the long-winded details of our visit to Iceland. Enjoy!
